Creatives Unite
May 24th, 2011
I’ve just registered for the Creative Freelancer Conference in Chicago June 23 and 24. Ilise Benum at Marketing Mentor has done such a good job of organizing this conference and providing marketing and promotional tips for designers. I’m looking forward to meeting her and connecting with other designers . . . and seeing Chicago. Never been to Chicago. Can’t wait, I so love big cities! Also love sharing ideas with like-minded individuals from other parts of the world. So necessary for us solo-preneurs to link up with others.

How time flies
May 16th, 2011
Just coming off my busy season and getting back to some blog updates. Has it really been since December that I posted anything? That’s pretty sad. Fortunately it’s because I’ve been swamped with my SmartTrips and Sunday Parkways jobs, not to mention several huge proposals for Stacy and Witbeck. Here’s some of the new look for SmartTrips Northeast:
I love the color palette:
If you live in Northeast Portland (area below), click on the color palette above. It will direct you to the SmartTrips website where can order your free transportation resources. You can get tons of cool transportation materials, plus a water conservation kit that has a bathroom faucet aerator, kitchen faucet aerator, a shower timer and lots of other water-saving gadgets

.

Holiday Happiness
December 22nd, 2010
These raindrops that are part of my logo are amazingly versatile. The raindrop Xmas tree is quite attractive. Unfortunately, we are having a rainy Xmas instead of a white one. But not quite as rainy as Southern California. Yikes. Lots of rain down in the Southland. Hoping all of my friends down there are safe and high and dry.
I’ll work on more images throughout the year for the raindrops. I really like them. I think I’ll start a line of raindrop-inspired items like that line of bulldog items. Although bulldogs are certainly more appealing than raindrops. I guess if my last name had been Bulldog it would make more sense. Or Pug. I could start Pug-inspired items. I think those already exist, because people LOVE their pugs (see wordstrumpet.com). Now if I could ever find my favorite dog at the pound, he would look something like this.
Okay, Merry Xmas. Happy shopping. Happy cookie eating.

Well you probably already saw my raindrop turkey but here he is again. And don’t miss the dog show on Thanksgiving, it’s getting to be my favorite part of the holiday.

Exercise your brain with exercise
October 7th, 2010
Seriously. Exercise creates a stronger, faster brain. I read this article in The Oregonian yesterday by Marissa Cevallos from The McClatchy Tribune. To get a stronger, faster brain? EXERCISE, the more intense the better. Patients with Parkinsons have actually re-grown brain cells after two months of physical exercise. In experiments on mice, the ones who broke a sweat on a hamster wheel out-performed their lard-butt cousins when it came to recalling patterns or running through mazes. Even more telling, she says, “A depressed brain is fertile ground for Alzheimer’s. The disease attacks faster in depressed patients.” How to avoid Alzheimer’s? Get out of your chair and walk around the block and stay connected.
As an avid dragon-boater, and new convert to strength training (thank you Marie at Bally’s), I totally believe exercise is the key to a healthy life, and I mean healthy in both the physical and emotional sense.
Just what I think.
Which gives me a chance to use this cute old lady illustration I did awhile back for NW Natural. She needs to throw off her throw and get moving.

Friday Marketing and Inspiration
October 4th, 2010
Fridays seem to be the hot day for both self-promotion and inspiration.
A recent BizNik entry by Lidia Varesco Racoma titled Friday Afternoon Marketing: Tips for Weekly Small Business Marketing Maintenance is great: http://tinyurl.com/29lwxkt TONS of people responded to this nicely written list of effective tasks to do on a Friday afternoon. Likewise, this Portland writer, Charlotte Rains Dixon (yes, we are related!) posted this blog on Friday Inspiration. http://tinyurl.com/2cktgzg You’ll want to check in with her each Friday for her new Friday feature. I can personally guarantee it will be interesting.

Grant Fields project
August 24th, 2010
So I’m involved in the Grant Fields project … the goal is to improve the quality of the soccer, football and lacrosse fields at Grant High School. They are mud pits for much of the playing season and this project would replace the muddy grass with synthetic turf fields, replace the Grant track, and add pedestrian lighting and hand rails. Long overdue! Much appreciation for Judy and Lloyd Lindley who have led this charge for years. It looks like the project will finally get going but money is needed. Donations accepted. Website visitable, click on one of the cards.
